The Thrift Store Sales Staff position is an ongoing, non-collective staff position critical to the operations of the Thrift Store. This job's main responsibilities involve working in the Thrift Store, assisting customers, executing transactions and maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-stocked retail environment.

This is a high-volume, high-energy retail environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate ability/experience handling and thriving in a challenging setting; welcome to Thunderdome.

This is an internal hiring, open to all paid workers at Free Geek, exclusively, until Thursday, March 10. If at that point, no hire has been made, the position will be posted publicly.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Handle cash and credit sales, and close out till at the end of the day
  • Process, price and shelve incoming products
  • Assist in cleaning and maintenance of the store
  • Maximize income for Free Geek while not compromising Free Geek's culture or values
  • Evaluate existing Thrift Store layout.
  • Suggest & implement improvements.
  • Maintain shelf organization & stocking.
  • Run the till, make sales, answer customers' questions, channel customer complaints to proper avenues.
  • Proactively communicate with Free Geek staff & volunteers, especially those involved in testing, production and tech support about needs of the Thrift Store.
  • Effectively communicate store policies to customers
  • Provide a safe and welcoming retail environment to customers of all abilities/experience
  • Maintain current knowledge of market prices for store items, and work to ensure pricing consistency amongst all staff & volunteers
  • Assist in the development of Thrift Store policies and procedures
  • Assist in the training of store staff and volunteers
  • Attend and actively participate in Thrift Store Working Group
  • Assist in all aspects of sales.
  • Abide by Expectations for All Paid Workers

Schedule

  • 40 hours/week, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00am to 7:30pm, some evening or morning meetings, with some flexibility

Compensation

  • Salary is $11.55/hour.
  • 1 week paid time off per year (combined vacation and sick time, based on average hours worked).
