Job Title: Distro Intern
Hours Weekly: 8 hours/week
Days Per Week: 2 days/week
Length of Internship: Minimum 4 months
Training: Orientation and Training Provided
Free Geek Supervisor: Michael, Tech Support Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • For Ubuntu and Debian Linux distributions, keeping Free Geek volunteers' needs in mind:
    • Perform usability QA
    • Write bug reports
    • If possible, create bug fixes

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with basic troubleshooting
  • Experience using and configuring Ubuntu and Debian
  • Knowledge of launchpad and other bug reporting systems
  • Technical aptitude
  • Usability QA experience or desire to learn
  • Understanding of how inexperienced users interact with computers

In addition:

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress and maintain a positive attitude in a relatively chaotic setting. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions, but will be able to work on projects with minimal supervision. The candidate will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes.
