Procedures to Discuss

1. Firing
NPAs have been fired by ad hoc means, outside of staff meetings and/or HR meetings with recorded minutes. There is a PROPOSAL for staff discipline, which includes Resolution Commmittee. We've used this a few times, in earnest, but the whole portion regarding staff discipline at all is in proposal form.
What are the processes for termination, for each category of worker? Who decides, based on what criteria, and how?
2. Exclusions
What are policies/procedures regarding 86ing individuals from Free Geek, and how does this differ from exclusions of other areas (The store? Computer Lab?). Again, who decides, based on what criteria, and how? In recent history, we've been all over the map on this, anywhere from Collective Meetings to address this, to off-the-cuff decisions completely outside of any meeting.
Specifically, I'd suggest something that would allow anyone to "suspend" someone from coming here while it goes through a clear process toward a decision. This would allow staff to react to the situation without having to make decisions in the moment. "You will be notified...now go" kinda language?
3. Conflict of Interest Statement
Who signs it? Which categories of workers/volunteers? Should council sign this, as decision makers? What about each staff category? Right now, each collective member signs it as part of her orientation. It is recorded on the wiki as policy for board, but nothing concrete for Staff of any kind. Does this need to still be adopted as policy?
Also: How does this agreement mesh with the fact the Staff Collective decides our own compensation? Specifically, the line: "In the course of meetings or activities, I will disclose any interests in a transaction or decision where I (including my business or other nonprofit affiliations), my family and/or my significant other, employer, or close associates will receive a benefit or gain. After disclosure, I understand that I will not be permitted to participate in the decision and I may be asked to leave the room." How do we justify setting our own salaries, given the wording of this policy? I understand there are precious few other options for where this decision could be made, but it's a pretty clear violation of the policy as it stands.
4. Probationary Reviews for Committeds
5. Donations directly to volunteers who are waiting for us to open. See RT#18938.
6. Volunteers with special needs: when/how do we ask or require a volunteer to come with an attendant or helper?
