Careful records are kept of every electronic device that is donated to Free Geek. A receipt is created for every donation, which is entered into our database. A donor always has the option of taking with him/her a printed copy of that receipt for his/her record.

Trained staff in Receiving determine if an item donated is a covered device or not-covered, and immediately label non-CED with the non-CED sticker. As CEDs get evaluated for Reuse or Recycling, staff supervise trained volunteers in labeling and tallying of each item.

When a vendor picks up CEDs for further processing Free Geek staff hands them two Bills of Lading; one the internal Free Geek BoL, one NCER provided BoL; detailing the type and amount of material shipped. This signed Bill of Lading is matched with the signed Bill of Lading provided by the vendor at the time of pick up, and will be matched with the invoice provided by the vendor later. We enter this information into our database and keep a hard copy on site for seven years.
