Steamed Bread

  • 1 Tb yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup water

Combine and allow to stand for 30 minutes. Then add

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 + 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tb sugar
  • 1 Tb oil

Knead into dough. Let rise for at least 2 hours. Then knead smooth again, and knead in

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

Divide into balls, and let them rise for 20 minutes. At this point they may be really sticky. I haven't tried flouring them, so I can't tell if they can stand it or need to be this sticky.

Steam 15 minutes over boiling water.
