* Most recently we did our logo in plain form on t-shirts, about 6-inches across [hand silk screen]. They turned out very nice. We used grey on white for the logo on black and ash colored tees. The black looked great, the grey should probably be black on white (like the shirts for 4-5 years ago). We order from vendors who use sweatshop free labor only. Please ask Elizabeth for more details. Also see these links:
- Unite here: http://unitehere.org/

Preferred Vendor
Right now, we use Windjammer, Inc (Bangor, PA). They are a UNITE members. They ship accurate orders quickly. And they are price competitive.
Screening
We currently use Hand Silk Screen. They are googleable and near Free Geek. Contact is Clark Nickles. We could use Windjammers in-house screening, but are not currently.
Do Not Order From These Vendors
- No Sweat: http://nosweatapparel.com/
Previous attempts to use this vendor were disastrous. And they are expensive. See previous versions of this page for more detail.

- Note!!! Website says prices have been raised to $8/shirt
- North Country Fair Trade: http://00674e0.netsolhost.com/products.htm

Screening
- Use Hand Screening, 916 Se 7th Avenue, Portland, OR 97214; Contact Clark at phone: (503) 234-6515 or clarknickles@comcast.net
- For two color shirts: single-sided = 2.25/shirt and double-sided = 3.25/shirt. He does a little graphic design and has agreed to alter the color of the logo (he has a photo image of it) for the front of the shirt (which will be 6 x 6) as part of the price. He will place the "www.freegeek.org" on the back in Ariel font. He estimated one week to complete and he delivered on time with good workmanship.
- He can also order t-shirts from American Apparel for future orders.
- Another: Printed Matter, 232-7768. 11th and Alder.
- Abra Kazam, (503) 234-6541. Contact: Vicky.
info@abrakazam.net
- These types of questions should be asked of a potential screener
- How much for a two color graphic, approx 6 inches in diameter
- Abra Kazam answer: Black and white: $356.50/150 = $2.38/shirt
- How fast is turnaround on the amount (usually about 150 tshirts)
- Abra Kazam answer: Usually 7 business days. By August 1, no problem.
- What file format do they require for graphics (important! we use linux so this can be trickier)
- Abra Kazam answer: pdf should be adequate. they will let us know if they run into other issues.
- Do they do any graphics design on site and how much is that?
- Abra Kazam answer: yes. $80/hour, depending on what we need done.
price quotes are loose!
Logo Considerations
- Some logos look better than others, which may impact how often someone is likely to wear a t-shirt. That said, using our sticker logo fits more within a broader strategy of strengthening brand recognition.
- Location on ryukin: /usr/local/outreach/logos/logo_fg/use_this_one.eps
- Most recently we did our logo in plain form on t-shirts, about 6-inches across [hand silk screen]. They turned out very nice. We used grey on white for the logo on black and ash colored tees. The black looked great, the grey should probably be black on white (like the shirts for 4-5 years ago). Clark from hand silk screen is calling union shirt supply, and I'll come up with an spreadsheet-style order for so that we can streamline ordering of this product.
T-Shirt Contest
Free Geek had a t-shirt contest (insert link of Owens Walz graphics on claws). We made one mistake that added months to the production of the shirts: In the future it is very important that submitted entries are 3 or fewer colors or it will either cost too much to screen or not be screenable at all.
