Talk:Contractor

My reason for adding this is to help in our clarification of how we relate to different employees. Do contractors fall under the Hiring Policy, wherein the council would set priorities and strategy for hiring contractors? Do they get reviews, like staff and interns (presumably not)? Do temps fall in this category? What does the wording in the definition given even mean? These questions may seem irrelevant right now, but as we start talking about "different classes" of free geek employees, they will be relevant. Also, should we include some history of contractors at Free Geek? --Ideath 15:12, 29 September 2006 (PDT)

I don't think that the term contractor applies to certain positions being considered right now. (i.e. positions arising out of long term substitutes, folks stepping back from the collective, maybe others). The IRS definition of a contractor was heavy on our mind when we developed the staff contracting policy. That definition has more to do with whether and how much we directed how a person does a job, which doesn't seem to be what the issues we are talking about now are.
I think for most of these current issues we ought to lose the term contractor and come up with something else.
