Thrift Store Volunteer Internship

Description

This internship is a great way to gain experience in customer service, problem solving, and the Linux environment -- all at the same time. Thrift store interns assist a wide variety of customers, from complete computer novices to experts, with all kinds of computer-related needs. Interns work alongside staff members helping customers, answering the phone, preparing and displaying items for sale, ringing up purchases and keeping things tidy. Interns have the opportunity to gain a wide knowledge base about electronics and the Linux operating system.

Job Title: Thrift Store Intern

Hours Weekly: At least 8 hours/week

Days Per Week: At least 1 day/week

Length of Internship: 120 hours over a 2 – 5 month period

Training: Orientation and Training Provided

Free Geek Supervisor: Sales Coordinator

Responsibilities

Money handling, including cashiering, as well as opening and closing out a till

Customer service

Stocking merchandise and keeping the floor clean and organized

Answering phones

Optional - Completion of a special project tailored to your interests, such as customer surveys, handouts, sign creation etc. We will work with you to find a project that meets your professional goals.

Volunteer interns receive a free computer and one year of Tech Support. Additionally, in their free time volunteers are welcome to use the computers in the library to check their email or do research on the web, and may take classes at Free Geek for free. Active volunteers receive a 20% discount on items sold in the Thrift Store. Volunteering at Free Geek also makes you eligible to become a member of First Tech Credit Union.
