The buddy should also:

* check-in once a week,

* be the "go to" person for questions,

* be proactive about questions and issues, and

* be sure to check in on how the new member is doing on completing goals. These goals could have been from the staff or from the new member themselves. The buddy can even help the new collective member distill action plans from items in their job description.

This form should be printed out, completed, and placed in the new staff member's file. Additionally, new staff members should be directed to Employee Orientation Resources to look over during their first few weeks of work.

Checklist

When a new staff member is hired, it is important that he or she receives a general Free Geek orientation beyond the standard on-the-floor trainings. The new staff member's supervisor or designated trainer (formerly buddy) is responsible for making sure that the following steps are accomplished to ensure general orientation. Many of these training steps must be led by other people, but it's the supervisor/designated trainer's responsibility to make certain that it gets done and that a complete hard copy of this document exists in the new hire's file. The supervisor/designated trainer also needs to determine an orientation schedule and share it with the new hire on his or her first day.
